Highlander—Confirmation of a Giant Gas Field in South Louisiana
Kevin McMichael (Claymore Oil & Gas, Florence, Texas)
On Feb. 16, 2026, Highlander Oil & Gas logged the confirmation well to a large gas discovery made 14 years earlier in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, beneath the Bayou Long Field. Significant Tuscaloosa gas pay was found and the well proved up a column height in excess of 2100 ft. This talk will summarize our current interpretation of the stratigraphy and structural evolution of this field as well as some of the diagenetic factors making this ultra deep discovery possible. The well was drilled much more efficiently than the prior well due to lessons learned and effective coordination among the drilling and evaluation team, enhancing the economics of future full field development. Once completed, the well, which was drilled to 30,862 ft, will be among the deepest highest pressure gas wells in the world.
Join us for the All-Convention Luncheon, hosted by GCAGS and GCSSEPM. Speaker Kevin McMichael (Claymore Oil & Gas, Florence, Texas). Targeted sponsorship is currently available. Entrance by badge only.
